Have you ever been through one of those days where you needed some quick cash and your bank account was less than zero or even negative like mine? To be honest, I've had more than my fair share of those days! But then, I realized that either complaining or crib is not going to help me out of dire straits.
It so happened that I always did well in English class, in-fact straight A's actually. Well, I thought, why the heck cannot I give myself a chance at writing!
Of course, there was a lot of ground work that I had to do then to find out what actually pays money for my writing. People were ready to pay money for information. After doing a lot of filtering, there were two prime options that I could choose from:
• Write and sell eBooks on niche topics
• Write articles and ask Google to pay me
I chose the second option. Welcome to the world of Ad-sense. If you are new to Ad-sense, here is the thing in a nutshell. You are selling electronic ad space to Google for them to display ads on your webpage. When people visit your web page for information, they also get to see the ads displayed. This may lead some of them to click on the ads relevant to them.
So, how does Google pay you? It’s simple. You will be paid for every ad that is clicked by the visitor of your webpage. You may also be paid by the total number of ad impressions made on your webpage. Everything is automated to such an extent that all that you need to do is to introduce a code snippet into your web page as directed by Google. Once done, you are all set and ready to go.
I can help you get started in another couple of minutes. This is the same piece of information that is being sold on the Internet for $29.95. Looks like some magic figure, huh... :-)
Step 1: Choose a theme
Everyone is good at something or the other, aren’t we? This is the right time for you to reveal your expertise to the world. Every website has a theme. It is important that you choose the theme and then continue writing articles under this theme. This gives more focus to the website. Let me give you a few examples:
1) Chinese, Indian, or Mexican Recipes
2) Helping people with Microsoft Office or any software suite
3) Travel and Tourism
4) How to make money online
5) Photography & Arts
6) Loans for all occasions
7) Credit rating and other financial topics
8) Book or Movie Reviews
I found it very difficult to choose a theme initially and ended up starting a blog website “All under the Sky”. But that’s a different story.
Step 2: Write your first article
Once you are done choosing your theme, you now need to start writing your first set of articles. For instance, let us say you chose the theme “Loans for all occasions”. Probably, you might write your first article on “How to obtain your mortgage loans easily”. You just need to ensure that your articles meet the following requirements:
1) It should not be some article picked up from the Internet and re-written to your requirements. Go that extra mile to do some research for your readers. After all, don’t you want them to have the best? If you could do that, Google will take care of you. I can assure you that.
2) Plagiarism strictly not allowed.
3) The article should have some kind of take-away for the reader. For example, “Ten things to avoid while availing a bank loan” or “5 easy steps to increase your credit rating”
4) Stay focussed in your writing. Be crisp and to the point.
5) Provide links to websites which can be of help to people.
6) I would like to re-iterate on the point that Google will simply love you if you could simply follow the above steps. This is a straight-forward approach to success.
Step 3: Sign up for an account with blogger.com.
This is the next important step that you will need to implement in your journey towards success. Go over to the blogger.com website. Click the button “CREATE A BLOG”. This is a wizard that will take you through a simple set of steps. When it asks for a website name, choose one that is closely associated with your theme. For instance, since you will be dealing with loans, you might end up choosing the website name, “loanforalloccasions.blogspot.com”. Also, you will be asked to choose an appropriate template. Here, make a choice of your own.
Step 4: Publishing your first article
Remember the article that you had written in step 2. You will need to publish the article onto the website that you created in step 3. This is pretty simple
• Log on to blogger.com
• On the top right hand section of the home page, enter your username and password and then click the “SIGN IN” button.
• Once you are in, you will be led to the Article Dashboard page.
• Here, below your website, click the “New Post” button.
• On the page that is served, copy and paste the title and body of the article that you created in step 2.
• Now, click “PUBLISH POST”
• Congratulations, you have succeeded in publishing your first article.
Step 5: Sign up for your Google Adsense account
This is a very important step. Visit the Google Adsense Page and sign up for a new account. Click the “Click Here to Apply” button. The wizard will take you through a series of simple steps to help you apply for a Publishers ID. Here, you will be submitting the URL or address of your website that you created in step 3. For instance, “loansforalloccasions.blogspot.com”.
Step 6: Wait for Google to get back
It might take anywhere up to 7 business days for Google to review and approve your website. Once ur application is approved, logon to your Google’s Adsense account. Here copy the your publisher’s ID.
Step 7: Provide Google Publisher’s ID in your Blogger.com website
Log on to your Blogger.com website that you created in step 3. Under the Monetize section, provide your Publisher ID that you got from Google. You could take more help from the Help section.
Step 8: Making way for your first ads to be served
In your Blogger.com website, enter the Layout section. In the layout of your webpage that is displayed, click “Add a Gadget” link. In the popup window that pops up, click the + symbol by the side of the text “Adsense”. This will promptly add the code for Google to serve the ads from its servers.
Wow!!! You are now all set to make more money. Do not get carried away. Unlike all the eBooks on the Internet that promise you with millions in your pocket within 15 minutes from the time of your purchase, I wouldn’t even imagine of stating something even close to that. What you have done is just 50% of the work.
Step 9: Promoting your Blogger Website
The more the number of visitors into your website, higher will be your revenue from Google. To do this, you will have to promote your website, by submitting the same articles to ezines and providing the link to your website in the resource box of the author. Try submitting to as many ezines as possible. The greater the number, greater is your visibility.
Also, you will need to submit your website address to search engines to enable them crawl your website and create a listing in their own databases.
Step 10: Write articles consistently
The popularity of your website will increase only when you start publishing new articles on a constant basis. Let us say, you might be expected to write up to 3-5 valuable articles in a day for your rating to increase instantly.
With that we come to the end of this very short course on earning money through Google’s Adsense program. Bookmark this website for more articles of this kind.
